Pacifiers, why did you give your baby one?

I have a 2 week old daughter, and was determined to not use a pacifier, however, in the late afternoon/evening, all she wants to do is suck on my nipple, she just keeps it in her mouth and falls asleep and the minute i take her off she starts fussing. I really don't want to use one, however my are getting really sore.... Any suggestions?
