Any suggestions for an overly attached dog?

I have a little chi mix that is attached to my hip, literally. Any time I sit down, she needs to be on my lap. I read a little bit about chihuahua's and realize this is a trait of their breed, complete and total loyalty, and completely attached. I adore her and love her cuddle time, but sometimes I could use some time for just me. How do I do this in a healthy way?
